Description

Delicious blueberry cream cheese swirl rolls perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup blueberries (for topping)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a bowl, mix warm milk with yeast and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Prepare Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until the dough forms. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  3. Prepare Filling: In a bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. In another bowl, toss blueberries with cornstarch.
  4. Assemble Rolls: Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough. Sprinkle blueberries over the cream cheese layer. Roll up the dough tightly and slice into 1-inch pieces.
  5. Second Rise: Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rise for an additional 30-45 minutes.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Add Topping: Remove rolls from oven and let them cool slightly. Garnish with additional blueberries and dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
  • For a more intense blueberry flavor, add a bit of blueberry jam to the filling.
  • If you prefer a glaze, mix powdered sugar with a bit of milk and drizzle over the cooled rolls.
  • Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving to let the filling set.
