Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate, melted (for ganache)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake:
    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
    2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until combined.
    4. Carefully stir in boiling water until the batter is thin.
    5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  2. Bake:
    1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    2. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes. Remove from pans and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
  3. Prepare the Frosting:
    1. In a medium bowl, beat together butter and cream cheese until smooth.
    2. Add confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy.
    3. Slowly add heavy cream and beat until spreadable consistency is reached.
  4. Assemble the Cake:
    1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top.
    2. Add the second cake layer. Cover the entire cake with frosting.
  5. Ganache and Decoration:
    1. Pour melted dark chocolate over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
    2. Optionally, sprinkle with chocolate shavings.

  • Ensure the cake layers are completely cooled before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate.
