Description

Enjoy your homemade Flaky Sausage Pastry Rolls!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 9 oz (255 g) sausage meat
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (about 9x12 inches)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon flour (for dusting)
  • Icing sugar and water (for icing drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Prepare the Sausage Filling: Mix the sausage meat with salt, pepper, and Dijon mustard (if using). Divide the sausage mixture into even portions.

  3. Roll Out the Pastry: Lightly dust your work surface with flour. Roll out the puff pastry to smooth out any creases.

  4. Assemble the Rolls: Cut the pastry into rectangles wide enough to wrap each portion of sausage. Place a portion of sausage on each rectangle and roll the pastry around it. Seal the edge with a bit of water and press gently.

  5. Prepare for Baking: Place the rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush over the pastry rolls.

  6. Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.

  7. Add Icing Drizzle: Once baked, let rolls cool slightly. Mix icing sugar with a bit of water to create a thick icing. Drizzle over the cooled rolls.

Notes

  • Ensure your puff pastry remains cold for best results in flakiness.
  • Use different types of sausages (e.g., spicy, herbed) for varied flavors.
  • If opting out of the icing, consider a sprinkle of sesame seeds before baking for added crunch.
  • Serve warm or allow to cool completely before glazing for a crisper texture.
