Description

A delicious chickpea and ground beef skillet dish that is easy to prepare and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 or 85/15 for juiciness)
  • 2 14-ounce cans chickpeas (drained)
  • 2 teaspoons grated garlic (about 2 cloves)
  • 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger (about 1 thumb-sized knob)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2/3 cup water

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Form the ground beef into four even patties and cook in the skillet undisturbed for about 3 minutes.
  3. Flip the patties gently and add the drained chickpeas. Cook until they turn brown, about 7 minutes.
  4. Break the beef patties into pieces and mix with the chickpeas.
  5. Add grated garlic, ginger, onion powder, cumin, garam masala, salt, and pepper. Cook for a minute, stirring to blend.
  6. Incorporate the tomato paste and mix thoroughly, scraping up any bits from the pan.
  7. Pour in the water, stir well, and taste for seasoning before serving.
