- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 or 85/15 for juiciness)
- 2 14-ounce cans chickpeas (drained)
- 2 teaspoons grated garlic (about 2 cloves)
- 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger (about 1 thumb-sized knob)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2/3 cup water
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Form the ground beef into four even patties and cook in the skillet undisturbed for about 3 minutes.
- Flip the patties gently and add the drained chickpeas. Cook until they turn brown, about 7 minutes.
- Break the beef patties into pieces and mix with the chickpeas.
- Add grated garlic, ginger, onion powder, cumin, garam masala, salt, and pepper. Cook for a minute, stirring to blend.
- Incorporate the tomato paste and mix thoroughly, scraping up any bits from the pan.
- Pour in the water, stir well, and taste for seasoning before serving.
