Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar (plus extra for coating)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, beat the egg and add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter forms.
- Shape the Donuts:
- Transfer the batter into a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a corner snipped off.
- Pipe the batter into donut molds, filling them about halfway.
- Fry the Donuts:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep-fryer or large pot to about 350°F (175°C).
- Gently place the donuts into the hot oil, a few at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry each donut until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the donuts and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Coat with Sugar:
- While the donuts are still warm, roll them in granulated sugar until evenly coated.
Notes
- Ensure the oil maintains the correct temperature to avoid greasy or undercooked donuts.
- Experiment with adding a touch of cinnamon to the sugar coating for extra flavor.
- Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
