Key Ingredients for Gluten Free Biscotti

Gluten free biscotti can be a delightful addition to your coffee breaks, and choosing the right ingredients makes all the difference.

Almond Flour: This is the star ingredient, giving the biscotti a wonderfully nutty flavor and the right crumbly texture. If you’re seeking an alternative, hazelnut flour works beautifully too!

Sugar: A mix of granulated and brown sugar elevates the sweetness and depth of flavor in your biscotti. The brown sugar creates a nice caramel undertone, while granulated sugar helps achieve that perfect crunch.

Eggs: Eggs are crucial for binding and moisture. They provide structure and allow the biscotti to rise, creating that infamous crunch while keeping them soft enough to enjoy with coffee.

Baking Powder: This ingredient ensures that your biscotti rise perfectly, achieving that classic Italian biscuit texture without gluten.

Flavorings: A hint of vanilla or almond extract adds a warm, aromatic note that will surely tantalize your taste buds, making each bite a little piece of heaven.

By carefully selecting each ingredient, you’re well on your way to creating gluten free biscotti that family and friends will rave about!

Tips for Making Perfect Gluten Free Biscotti

Creating delicious gluten free biscotti can initially seem daunting, but with a few tips from my kitchen adventures, you’ll be well on your way to achieving that perfect crunch.

Choose the Right Flour Blend
Not all gluten-free flours are created equal. A blend that includes almond flour often yields the best results for biscotti, providing a rich flavor and adding the needed texture. If you want to experiment, consider mixing almond flour with a gluten-free all-purpose blend for optimal texture.

Don’t Skip the Cooling Stage
After baking your biscotti logs, let them cool slightly before slicing. This step is crucial; if they’re too hot, they may crumble. Once cooled, use a sharp knife to cut evenly-sized slices, which helps them bake uniformly.

Low and Slow Baking
For that perfect crunch, bake the sliced biscotti again on a lower heat until they are golden. This double-bake method enhances the flavors and the texture, giving you that delightful, crispy bite.

Flavor Matters
Feel free to get creative with your gluten free biscotti! Incorporate different spices like cinnamon or nutmeg, or mix in dried fruits or nuts to lend a unique twist to each batch. This is where your personality shines through!

By keeping these tips in mind, you’ll find yourself whipping up batches of delightful gluten free biscotti that will impress friends and family alike. Happy baking!

Delicious gluten-free biscotti perfect for dipping in your favorite coffee or tea.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups gluten-free flour
  • 1 teaspoon xanthan gum

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, xanthan gum, baking powder, ground cinnamon and salt. Set aside for now.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together light brown sugar, melted butter, eggs and vanilla extract until well combined. Make sure all big lumps of brown sugar are broken up.
  3. Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir with spatula until well combined. Make sure all dry ingredients are combined into the wet ingredients.
  4. Cover bowl with plastic food-safe wrap and place into fridge to let chill for 20 minutes.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C).

  14. Remove from oven, place slices on a baking rack to let cool completely.
